I’m selling my condo soon. And it’s not for a big payout (it’s actually pretty small), but because it’s the right decision for our finances and future. It hasn’t been my primary home for a while now, and with the renter moved out, it’s time to let it go. As I close this chapter, I want to take some time to reflect and appreciate everything this space gave me.
I first fell in love with this property because of the very abundant (but not intense) natural light and its proximity to shops and restaurants. The unit was also the perfect size for me, as it was spacious enough, and quite the upgrade from a very small 490 square foot apartment. I loved the grittiness and character of the neighborhood, which to me felt really different and unique compared to other neighborhoods in the city. It didn’t feel mainstream, and there were many hidden gems throughout the area. Everything felt like the right fit- the location, the layout, the community. I spent many years living there on my own and grew a lot both personally and professionally during that time.
As I part with my condo, I want to express gratitude for everything it has given to me.
Thank you, condo for:
- Giving me a roof over my head, and a warm place to sleep, after long days at work, exploring a new city, or just to recharge
- Providing me with beautiful natural light that was uplifting, even on cloudy days
- Many nights of love and snuggles with kitty, whether while watching TV or in bed after nights out with friends
- Many, many, days waking up to the smell of fresh coffee every morning where I could try different roasts both locally and from all my travels
- A place we could stay safe during lockdown, where I could spend quality time with the person who would become my future husband
- Teaching me the lessons and realities of buying, selling, and renting out a home
- Keeping my renter safe during her times of financial instability
- Letting me make mistakes and learn the do’s and dont’s of homeownership and renovations
- Being a core part of this decade of my life, and for all the wonderful memories
We’ll see if I feel inspired to write a letter or not. Maybe I’ll leave a good luck penny on a windowsill somewhere. I do plan to sit with each room, recall a few favorite memories, and say a quiet thank you for what each space gave me.
