How I’d spend my time if I could do anything

With everything going on in U.S. politics I really wanted to write more about security and financial freedom, but I need more time to organize my thoughts. So for now, I’m setting that aside. Instead, I want to explore how I’d spend my time if I had complete freedom to do anything I wanted. How do I want to spend my time?

Becoming more mindful

Mindfulness helps me stay present, find peace, and keep racing thoughts from taking over. I’d love to develop a more consistent daily habit of meditating. Or perhaps even try a Vipassana retreat or some other type of meditation retreat. Actually, I’d also love to “forest bathe” at some point too.

Optimizing my physical health as much as i can

Muscles and physical health deteriorates over time. I can tell even within the past few years that my mobility, balance, strength and overall fitness has taken a slight decline. I would love to be consistent with lifting weights and perhaps some sort of cardio (even though I hate it).

I’d love to lift weights, and I’d love to do something different for cardio, like boxing even.

Reading

Reading more over these past couple years has improved my quality of life so much that I don’t see myself stopping. It’s so comforting now to curl up on the couch with a hot drink and a good book.

Tackling creative projects

I don’t need to keep doing the tech work I’m still doing now, but if there is an interesting project that comes along, I would love to be a part of it. I’d love to also do more work outside and perhaps spend time clearing and building things out on our West Virginia lot. It could be good for both my physical health and creativity.

More ways to challenge my brain in my downtime

  • Keep up the habit of journaling and writing
  • Puzzles (I know I know, am I at retirement age already?) – I just recently finished a 500 piece puzzle with a cuppa tea and true crime TV in the background. It was really relaxing!

Getting involved in the community

I’d love to be more involved with the community somehow. I don’t know what type of volunteer work I might like to do, but I’d love to find something fulfilling and where I can get to know my neighbors in the community.

So that’s pretty much it. I’ve become quite the simple gal, who doesn’t need too much. I’m surprised travel didn’t come up as one of my top interests, and I don’t feel the need to go out to a ton of events or dine at the hottest new restaurants (at least not anymore). Just give me a simple life with a book, a laptop, and some gym weights and I’m golden!
